OPTIWEIGH INSIGHTS: BEYOND THE DAILY EMAIL & APP – UNLOCKING THE SECRETS IN THE DATA DETAIL

A quick glance at either the Optiweigh App or the daily email can usually tell you all you need to know about how your animals are performing on a daily basis. Gaining weight as expected? Great. Move on – next job.

But what if the information is not what you expect to see? Or what if you want to do a bit more analysis to find out more about the factors influencing weight gain?  Well, the good news is that the Optiweigh portal has a whole lot more functionality available – and it is constantly being added to. The address is client.optiweigh.io and there is also a link there from the Optiweigh Website (top of the front page).

So what functionality is there:

1.  Individual animal data: particularly useful for validating the mob summary information:

    • Session Data shows all the animals, their weight and ADG for any selected time period.
    • Data Over Time shows the weights for individual over any selected time period – grouped by day, week or month.

The data from both of these reports can be downloaded as a csv file if you want to analyse it further or upload it into another application.

2.  Charts: visuals to make digesting the information easier:

    • Weight Chart shows the mob average over time for the selected time period and with the option to include data from previous sessions for those animals in the selected session.
    • Weight Distribution shows the number of animals by weight band and the total number above a certain weight – selectable by % of the mob, actual numbers weighed or estimated number in the mob based on the % weighed.

3.  Adjusted Weights: Allows a curfew or dressing percentage to be applied to show estimated weight delivered to feedlot or at slaughter. Set this when starting or editing a session.

4.  Exclude weights above or below nominated values: Set this when starting or editing a session (in the ‘Show More’ section) to do things such as:

(a) Exclude bulls or rams; or
(b) Only show the value for calves or lambs running with their mothers.

5.  File Upload: In “Session Management” use the “Upload File” button to upload files to the Optiweigh portal. These files can include:

    • Visual ID’s which will then show up on the individual animal reports;
    • Yard weights for use in calculating weight gains (eg weaning or induction weights); and
    • Yards, induction or kill weights for use in comparing to Optiweigh weights and calculating weight adjustment factors to use for displaying curfewed or carcass weights. Once these are put in we will run an analysis and send to you.

6.  Using for animals without EID tags: If only a few or none of your animals have EID tags you can set up a session to ignore EIDs. The system will still generate mob average and distribution – all that will be missing is the individual animal data.

The best way to find out more about all this is to call our team on 1300 678493 or email them at [email protected]. You’ll be speaking to Max, Alex, Safina or Mick, and they will be able to help explain the options and work out what suits your individual situation.
